2018 Chateau Pinasse – Bordeaux, France – Reg $10.99 – 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet France, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon Blend. Chateau Pinasse sources their grapes from their 35ha, family owned estate located in the Medoc. This classic Bordeaux blend is an excellent example of old world wine. The nose is rustic with notes of red clay, dried wood and rose petals. On the palate the nose continues with the addition of red cherry, blackberry and vanilla. There are medium tannins matched with moderate alcohol giving this wine a long finish. This wine would pair very well with creamy cheeses, crispy roast chicken and grilled pork with a rich berry sauce. 

2019 Girasole Vineyards, Charlie’s Blend – Mendocino, California – Reg $20.49 – 39% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petite Syrah, 16% Zinfandel. This certified organic winery with a long history of California winemaking, has made a blend of juicy, dark and lush fruit. This wine is both easy drinking and food friendly. On the nose this wine has dark, ripe notes of boysenberry and purple flowers. On the palate there are big over ripe black fruits like plum and black cherry. There are soft tannins and moderate alcohol giving this wine a soft, lingering finish. This would pair well with roasts, braised greens and meaty pastas.

2019 Girasole Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon – Mendocino, California – Reg $20.49 – 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. from a certified organic family owned farm originally planted in 1955.  This wine caught high praise from Wine Enthusiast scoring 91 points.  It’s a classical California Cab with flavors of ripe red cherry, pepper, and black olive with a smooth finish and grippy tannins.  Drink this alongside grilled or braised red meat, Game meats and grilled steaks with chimichurri. 

2019 Grottafumata, Lato Sud, Terre Siciliane Rosso – Sicily, Italy – Reg $48.99 – 90% Nerello Mascalese, 10% Nerello Cappuccio. Grottafumata grows wines in a truly epic location, between a volcano and the Mediterranean. Situated on the eastern side of the volcano, Mount Etna, the vines here are planted in very loose, sandy, volcanic ash. Some parts of the vineyard rise at a 45 degree slope meaning the vines literally cling to the side of the mountain. The difficult growing conditions are truly part of the character of the wine. The nose is smokey, dark black fruited, with dried rose and dusty ash. On the palate, that dusty earth, volcanic minerality and dark fruit are the first thing you will notice. This unique red would pair very well with smoked brisket, thick steaks, woody mushrooms, and hearty game meat stew.

2020 Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup, Rose – Languedoc, France – Reg $21.99 – 40% Syrah, 30% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 10% Cinsault. Located in the rocky, high elevation of the Languedoc, the family owned winery has been making biodynamic wine for over 20 years now. Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup plants their vines on rocky, calcareous soils avoiding any commercialization in their growing and winemaking process. The result is a vivid, bright wine with pungent bold fruit. The nose is full of violets and sage with notes of bright fresh brambly berries. On the palate the wine is juicy with the addition of berries and strong minerality. This wine would pair perfectly with arugula salads, canapes and seafood salads.

2020 Weinwurms, Fundament, Gruner Veltliner – Weinviertel, Austria – Reg $15.99 – 100% Gruner Veltliner. The name says it all, this was made to be a fun wine. Winewurms harvests all their grapes by hand and ages their wine in steel tanks to preserve the freshness of this Gruner Veltliner. This classic example of Gruner is easy drinking and uncomplicated. On the nose, there are notes of stone fruits, delicate white flowers and beeswax. On the palate, crisp green apple, green stone fruits, lanolin and ginger shine. This is a great wine to take to parties to drink on its own or to pair with a spicy strudel.

2020 De Martino Estate, Sauvignon Blanc – Maipo Valley, Chile – Reg $16.49 – 100% Sauvignon Blanc. De Martino Winery, located in the Maipo Valley of Chile, easily rivals the Sauvignon Blanc of New Zealand. These sauvignon blanc of the southern hemisphere is steely, fresh and balanced. There are pungent notes of fresh green grass, passion fruit, and lime pith on the nose. On the palate the nose follows with the addition of fresh kiwi, wet stone and racy acidity. This wine would pair ideally with corn and chicken dishes, grilled shellfish and green salsas.

Some parts of the vineyard rise at a 45 degree slope meaning the vines literally cling to the side of the mountain. The difficult growing conditions are truly part of the character of the wine. The nose of the wine is complex with notes of smoke, dusty earth, yellow fruits and straw. On the palate there is the addition of mint, savory herbs, grey stone and smooth acid. This would pair perfectly with bucatini and fennel, anchovy crostini’s and garlicy pesto.
