JANUARY 2022 RELEASE Sat, Apr 09, 22 January 2022 Release W H I T E S 2020 Satellite Sauvignon Blanc – Marlborogh, New Zealand – Reg $23.49 – 100% Sauvignon Blanc. This is the second label of the famous winery, Spy Valley Wine Company out of southern Marlborough, the home of NZ Sauvignon Blanc. This award winning wine maker has created this label to produce classic profiled wines. This Sauvignon Blanc is pungent on the nose with kiwi, pink grapefruit and acacia flowers jumping out of the glass. On the palate there is the addition of sweet stone fruits, racy acid and moderate alcohol. This wine would pair well with lobster rolls, crab legs and fresh fruit salads. NV Gregoletto Prosecco Treviso Siu Lieviti – Veneto, Italy – Reg $22.49 – 100% Glera. Located in the Italian Alps, Veneto is home to an incredibly diverse terrior. The vineyards used to source the grapes for Gregoletto’s Prosecco is hand picked with quality in mind. This particular bottling is bone dry and bottled on lees. The result is a lean, crisp wine with earthy depth. The nose is full of white and yellow flowers. The palate add notes of fresh stone fruit and earthy stone. This wine pairs perfectly with risotto, herbal sauces and creamy chicken dishes. 2020 Kreuznacher Piesporter Riesling Spatlese – Mosel, Germany – Reg $12.99 – 100% Riesling. For decades Kreuznacher has been making beautiful German Rieslings sourcing their grapes from vines planted on slate and river rocks and at peak ripeness. This Spatlese is harvested with the perfect amount of ripeness giving the resulting wine an elegant richness. On the nose there are notes of peaches, melon, clover honey and jasmin. On the Palate the nose follows with that quintessential slate on the back of the palate. There is strong acid to balance the rich palate giving this a clean lingering finish. This would pair perfectly with spicy thai curry, melon salads and panna cotta. 2020 Broadbent Vinho Verde – Vinho Verde, Portugal – Reg $10.99 – 50% Loureiro 40% Trajadura 10% Pederna. Vinho Verde is the most popular dry wine to come from Portugal. This light, zesty and refreshing wine is made and meant to be drunk young. On the nose there are notes of green apple, kiwi, white spring flowers. On the palate, the nose follows with the addition of bright fresh acid and fresh crisp lime. This dark and juicy wine made in a region most known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is surprisingly balanced and sophisticated. The region of Sonoma produces lighter styled grapes keeping this wine from becoming too jammy or fruity. There are notes of blackberries, plum and rich topsoil on the nose. On the palate there are notes of black roses, rich earth and baking spices. There are minimal tannins with moderate alcohol giving this wine a velvety texture and finish. Pair this wine with BBQ, hearty stews, and cooked leafy greens. 2017 Rancho Costero Zinfandel – Paso Robles, California – Reg $14.99 – 100% Zinfandel. Rancho Costero exemplifies the growing region of Paso Robles producing its signature grape, Zinfandel. This grape has been grown here since the 1880’s and continues to thrive in the region. This particular bottling is large on the nose with a lot of dark purple flowers, brambly berries, plums and top soil. On the palate, the wine is lush and full. There are notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and baking spices. Minimal tannins with medium plus alcohol give this wine a lingering but smooth finish. This would pair well with roasts and fruit sauces, smoked meats and hearty pasta dishes. R E D S 2017 25 Days Red Blend – Sonoma, California – Reg $16.49 – 68% Merlot, 32% Grenache Syrah Blend. The Languedoc region of France is well known for its full bodied, juicy grapes. Wild Pig has sourced their grapes here with the intent of making a lush, dark and expressive wine. Their oak series wines see aging in new oak barrels giving the wine the addition of vanilla, baking spices and softening natural tannins. On the nose this wine has dark ruby plums, blackberries, black cherries and violets. The nose follows on the palate with addition or green pepper and black soil. This wine would pair ideally with chili con carne, clay pot chicken and blackened chicken dishes. 2017 El Jamon, Crianza, Tempranillo – Aragon, Spain – Reg$ 15.99 – 100% Tempranillo. El Jamon, named for the famous Spanish Ham, Jamon Serrano, has sourced the grapes for their Crianza bottling from the northern region of Carinena. The Carinena region is one of the oldest regions in Spain and has earned a reputation for growing excellent quality Tempranillo. The finished product is full of dried red flowers, red apple skin and red clay on the nose. On the palate the wine is smooth and round with the addition of dried red fruit, black tea, tobacco and herb. There are dry tannins on the finish matching the moderate alcohol giving this wine a lingering finish. This wine would pair well with tomato sauces, shakshuka, grilled pork and hard goat cheese.
